Common Mistakes

Too much soap

a. Using too much soap is common, and non-refundable.

b. A typical liquid detergent will have a cap that measures out 4-5 different lines. For most loads, you need the lowest one. For truly pilau laundry, use the second one.

c. Also, scent boosters. Don’t use too much, or it won’t dissolve in the wash. You’re responsible for cleaning out the rest.

d. “But I want my clothes clean!” I hear you say. Learn to use pretreatment. Take a bit of your laundry soap and mix with water. Soak the clothes in that, and the machine will have an easier time getting them as clean as you would like.

Unbalanced state

a. You can just throw things in the wash and hope for the best, but unbalanced loads can damage a machine over time or all at once.

b. Imagine your stuff soaking wet. If you pick it up as separate handfuls, it should weigh about the same.

c. To prepare your clothes for drying, the washer will spin them at high speed. If the weight of your items is not equal (or close to it), as they press against the drum it will undergo precession (wobble).

d. The machine will give up after three tries, leaving your items soaking wet. This is not refundable.
