I'm Harlan.

I own and/or service the washers and dryers in your building. This page is the short version of everything you need.

Soap: 2 tbsp

  • Use 2 tablespoons of HE detergent per load. That is all these washers need.

  • HE (high-efficiency) detergent is required. Liquid or powder, both work.

  • Never more than 1/4 cup (4 tablespoons). A full cap is several loads worth.

  • No pods.

  • If you can see suds through the door, that was too much soap. Use less next time.

Everything about soap

Before you load

  • Right-size it: at least one five-gallon bucket’s worth, at most three.

  • Small things go in a laundry bag. If it would fit in a coffee cup, bag it.

  • Keep out: sand, rubber-backed rugs, and anything with fuel, solvent or other chemicals on it.

Step-by-step instructions

Something wrong? Tell me first.

  • Clothes locked in the washer: wait 30 minutes. Most errors that lock the door clear themselves. Don’t force the door or unplug the machine.

  • Anything else: a machine that won’t run, lost money, an error on the display, a machine that looks or smells wrong. Text or email me. My number and email are posted in your laundry room and printed on your move-in sheet. You can also use the contact form.

  • Tell me your name and unit, which laundry room and machine, the date and time, and what happened. A photo of the display helps.

  • I reply within 1-3 business days.

Emergencies

Water on the floor (more than a little bit), smoke or sparks: get clear and tell building staff or someone nearby right away. For fire or injury, call 911. Then let me know.

Refunds

If a machine fails and it wasn’t something you did, I’ll refund you. Ask within 7 days. The details are on the Policies page.
